SQL Training Course in Singapore — Query Any Database
This hands-on SQL course in Singapore teaches you to talk directly to any relational database in its own language. SQL — Structured Query Language — is the standard way to pull, filter, combine and update data across MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and dozens of other systems. Over two days of practical, classroom training, you move from never having written a query to confidently retrieving exactly the data you need, from one table or many, on demand.
You will work in a live database, writing real queries from your first hour. Starting with single-table SELECT statements and building up to multi-table joins, aggregation and sub-queries, you will learn to insert, update and delete records, design clean tables, and export results to Excel or CSV. The approach is led by Intellisoft’s founder and Master Trainer, Vinai Prakash, so you leave able to query whatever database your organisation runs — whether you sit in finance, marketing, IT, operations or analytics.
What You Will Learn
- Write
SELECTqueries to retrieve and filter data from any relational database with precision. - Combine data across multiple tables using
JOIN, and answer questions a single table cannot. - Insert, update and delete rows safely, and understand the performance impact of changing many records at once.
- Summarise data with aggregation and
GROUP BY, and apply string, date and numeric functions. - Build nested sub-queries and use set operations such as
UNIONandINTERSECT. - Design normalised tables, create views, and export query results to Excel or CSV files.
- Grasp how RDBMS storage engines and transactions keep your data consistent.
Who Should Attend
This course suits anyone who needs to get answers out of a database, whether you are completely new to SQL or already use it occasionally.
- Data and business analysts who extract, manipulate and report on data daily.
- Beginners and aspiring developers taking their first step into databases.
- Database administrators wanting a firmer command of querying and data manipulation.
- Managers, product owners and business professionals who need to ask the right data questions.
- Web developers building applications that read from and write to a database.
Prerequisites
- Basic computer literacy is all that is required — no prior database or programming experience is assumed.
- Any familiarity with tables, rows and columns is helpful but not essential; the fundamentals are covered from scratch.
- Access to a database at work afterwards lets you keep practising what you learn.
Course Outline
Day 1 — Foundations & Single-Table Queries
- Getting set up — install SQL, connect via command-line and graphical client tools, and understand what an RDBMS does.
- Why SQL — the features and benefits of the language, and how databases and tables are structured.
- Database design — data and column types, viewing an existing schema, and building an efficient, normalised structure.
- Retrieving data — extract information with the
SELECTcommand, filter and sort results, and read common warnings and errors. - Changing data — insert, update and delete table rows, and modify or drop a database safely.
Day 2 — Joins, Aggregation & Advanced SQL
- Aggregation — group query data and summarise it with aggregate functions.
- Multi-table queries — connect rows across tables using
JOINto answer richer questions. - Sub-queries & functions — write nested sub-queries and apply string, date and numeric functions.
- Views & set operations — create views from one or more tables and combine result sets with
UNIONandINTERSECT. - Import, export & engines — move data in and out as Excel or CSV, and understand storage engines and transaction processing.
Funding & Certification
This is a WSQ-funded, SkillsFuture-eligible programme for those who qualify, and NTUC members may use UTAP to offset part of the remaining fee. Training is led by Intellisoft’s founder and Master Trainer, Vinai Prakash. Corporate runs for teams of 15 or more can be arranged at your premises or ours.
